Phil Berkebile, Jr. and Katy Alexander from the Lone Star Art Auction in Dallas will discuss the current status of the Western and Texas fine art markets as well as the vital role specialized auction houses play in both selling and building important fine art collections. Katy will also discuss the important relationship between auction houses and appraisers.

Phil is the owner of Dallas-based Great American West Fine Art and Lone Star Art Auction. In 2009 he  established Great American West Fine Art, specializing in buying and selling Western Fine Art. In 2021, Phil founded the Lone Star Art Auction, a full-service auction house specialized in American, Western and Texas fine art. In 2022 after just over one year of operation, the Lone Star Art Auction has become the largest annual fine art auction in the State of Texas and one of the largest Western fine art auctions in the U.S. Phil’s knowledge of the Western fine art market is expansive and he is considered one of the leading experts on Western fine art today.

Katy holds a Master’s Degree in Art History from the University of Arizona and has 13 years’ experience as an Art History Professor, currently teaching for the University of South Alabama. Katy has been an Accredited Member of the International Society of Appraisers since 2014 and served as president of ISA's Foundation for Appraisal Education. Katy started her professional career in the arts in 2006 in San Antonio, as Director of Ruiz-Healy Art Gallery and working for Anne Alexander Art Appraisals. She has spent the last 13 years in the fine art auction industry, specializing in Texas Art in San Antonio and Dallas. Katy is currently working as the Consignment Director for Lone Star Art Auction.
